Mountain alder (Alnus viridis)

We only use the leaves of the plant in our soap.

> Mountain alder is a large shrub with several stems growing from a single base and bark that is reddish violet on the light side and olive green on the shaded side. It has simple, alternate sharply-toothed leaves that resemble birch leaves.

As the plant grows older, the bark turns gray-brown with light-colored cork-like pores. The buds are pointed and brown.

The ovate or heart-shaped leaves have a fresh green color on the top side, while the other side is somewhat lighter, yet still lusciously green.

It only grows in southwest Greenland and a few other arctic countries.
